Online players are very excited with the news that Cake Poker, one of the leading poker providers, has introduced a number of exciting new events.

Prizes of $100 will be awarded daily and over $500 can be won each week and CakePoker.com now offers an increased selection of guaranteed tournaments to suit all players’ requirements.

CakePoker.com is offering nine guaranteed events daily with buy-ins ranging from $22 for the $3,000 Turbo Bounty Guarantee game to $162 for the $20,000 guaranteed.

After a consultation between CakePoker.com’s Card Room Manager, Lee Jones with two professional players as well as analyzing a few of its’ competitors’ line-ups it decided to enlarge its offering. CakePoker.com will also be concentrating more on freezeout tournaments instead of rebuys and add-ons as they feel that this is what most players prefer.

The $100,000 Guarantee event that took place on the final Sunday of each month has now been replaced with a $250,000 Guarantee. Players are able to buy seats into the $250,000 Guarantee for $268 and also have the opportunity to win tickets via daily satellites for about $3.

Players can also redeem their Gold Chips to claim an instant seat to the $250,000 Guarantee tournament or enter the Gold Card Lottery to stand the chance of receiving one of 10 to 30 seats to each of the $250,000 Guarantee’s principal events.

An antiquated law in South Carolina makes it illegal for games that involve dice or cards to be played in the state. Anyone found playing these games can be punished with fines or even imprisonment.

After the arrest of five men for illegal gambling in South Carolina on charges of playing a game of poker they argued that poker, which is one of the most popular played cards, is not a game of chance but in fact a game of skill. It was a great victory when the court in South Carolina ruled in their favor.

Now that both South Carolina’s courts as well as Pennsylvania’s courts have ruled in favor of poker being a game of skill it may be easier to legalize online poker as a regulated and legal industry.

Representative Barney Frank and Senator Menendez are currently attempting to legalize online gambling, or at the very least, online poker. The recent victory in the South Carolina and Pennsylvania courts will in all probability contribute to their success with their struggle with the UIGEA.

The fact that South Carolina is one of the strictest states with regard to gambling laws has resulted in The Pokers Players Alliance celebrating the recent ruling by the courts as they are sure that this is a stride in the right direction.

When most people first heard of online poker rooms most of us did not even flutter an eyelid as it just seemed to be another gimmick to make us part with our money but as the future soon became clear this was certainly not the case as what happened next in the online world could not have been predicted by anyone.

Online poker began in the year of 1998 but it was not until 2002 that the craze of online poker really took off. There were a few online poker rooms around in 1998 and the very first was Planet Poker. There were more and more poker rooms appearing over the internet every year but it was not until 2002 that the larger and well known poker sites came into play and these included the Party Poker and Poker Stars online websites. When poker was first shown on television for the first time in the United States in 2003 it was the beginning of the online poker explosion which soon became a national game. The televised events of the poker world tour were first shown on the travel channel in 2003 and this soon became the highest TV ratings show on the network ever. Other networks such as ESPN also granted the game a lot of air time and in 2003 almost eight hundred people took part in the No limit Texas Hold Em tournament main event of the World Poker Series and this was the largest amount of players to ever enter this tournament and became a new record. However just to grasp the effect that 2003 had on poker this record did not stand for long as in 2004 that number of eight hundred players soon more than tripled than the previous year and this was when online poker became a online world sport. The 2004 tournament had a prize of five million dollars and due to the interest in online poker playing it was concluded that almost half of the two thousand six hundred players had actually qualified by playing over the internet.

As you would expect in 2005 the record for the amount of players who took part was destroyed again as there were nearly six thousand players who entered into the World Series and in the previous two years the winner of the main event were both players who had played online at the Poker Stars website.

Today the online poker community is driven by the US and they have turned the industry from nothing to a two billion a year industry thanks largely to Party Poker who hold almost a half of the whole online poker industry today. What I can see though is that the online poker has already produced world champions of the game and probably will do for years to come and with so many of the games professionals leaning towards the online community as well there is no doubt in my mind that online poker has a very bright future.

There are several reasons why several people like playing online poker than compared to the land based poker. For instance, there are several thousand online poker sites and all of then have got their regular players.

Online poker has drew a large crowd around the whole world and new members are registering on several poker sites on a daily base. In this article we will look at one of the positive points that attract many people to come and play poker online.
The positive points why online poker has become so popular is that:

Free Sign Up Bonus: Several online gambling sites attract several clients by offering them a free sign up bonus. At times this is usually known as a welcome bonus. With the free sign up bonus, players are able to play various poker games and the good thing about these free sign up bonuses is that they allow you to make a wager for a certain limit so as to withdraw your bonus.

So generally if you are a good poker player you would certainly get to withdraw the bonus amount without you having to deposit any money. This is one of the major key points that attract so many people to play poker online because the land based casino does not even offer you any bonus.

The free sign up bonus also allows beginners to get to learn how poker is played. At the land based card rooms there is no time for you to learn how poker is played and no one is able to teach you because every one is minding their own business.
Play the game at the comfort of your home. You will certainly enjoy playing your favorite poker game whilst you are at home. There is no need for you to travel far away from home to go play poker.

This is one important factor that many poker players have ignored and they have become bankrupt. Playing poker can be very addictive and it may end up being very harmful to ones life.

If you are thinking of taking poker has a profession then you should consider bankroll management. Generally bankroll management allows you to set a limit on the total amount you should play with and also to include the total amount you should gain.

Therefore bankroll management will help you on how to exit when playing poker. Even if you are winning you should also have a limit so as to stop because you should bear in mind that this is a game of high risks and anytime the table may turn.

As a poker professional player you should also know when to stop playing when you are losing. Of cause its always the case when playing poker that you win and lose at times and proper bankroll management will help you earn maximum profits and if not you will never gain maximum profits.

A proper bankroll management would be for you to set the number of limits you should lose and win. Therefore it would be a comparison of the number of times you have lost against the number of times you should win. For example when playing poker you should allow your self to lose at max 20 times against maximum wins of 35 times so that you will profit a 15 out of it. Therefore your ratio should be at an average of 3:1 i.e. for every 3 loses you should win a game. As long you maintain this ratio you will be guaranteed to obtain maximum profits.

If your ratio is no longer tallying then you should stop playing because you may keep losing than making a win.

The major effective bankroll management that is used by many poker players is the limiting of cash rather than loses against wins ratio. For example if you have $500 you would set your limit target to $700 and loss target to $300. Therefore if you have reached a total of $700 you stop play and if you keep losing you also stop play when you reach $300

Texas Hold’em and Seven Card Stud poker are two variations of traditional poker games. There are many differences between these two types of poker and of course, the main difference is in the rules one should follow while playing.

In Texas Hold’em, each player is dealt only two cards face down, while in Seven Card Stud poker cards are dealt individually to each player. This particular difference results in the following changes:

1) Strategy changes. In Seven Card Stud you have less knowledge about the cards in play, so it’s more difficult to analyze odds. However, at the same time it can help you make your own hand more private.

2) Gameplay changes. An average round will take more time. And, when you have a higher hand in Seven Card Stud, there is a lower chance that anyone else will have a high hand, as no cards are shared.

Excellent analysis skills should be used in Texas Hold’em to determine odds of your hand winning. If you rely on calculating odds based on the pot cards, Seven Card Stud will not be a good game for you to play. On the contrary, if you are not skilled in calculating odds, you may like this game, as there is a minimum of opportunities for experienced players to use calculations to their advantage.

It’s fair to say that Texas Hold’em is more popular today than Seven Card Stud poker and more people choose to play Texas Hold’em. Casinos may also have more tables for Texas Hold’em than Seven Card Stud, and those tables will have a greater variety of price ranges. Besides, there is more upward potential (in tournaments) in Texas Hold’em. Anyway, if you doubt which one to learn and to play, we recommend that you learn and enjoy both.

DoylesRoom is owned by the most famous poker player in the world Doyle Brunson and was opened in 2004 using the Tribeca Poker Network. In 2007 Doyles Poker room switched to the MicroGaming Network where they operated until there most recent move to the Cake Poker Network.

Doyles Poker room has always tried to offer players in the USA a chance to play in there poker room, but with problems such as the UIGEA and the Kentucky Domain Seizure they had problems with being able to allow US poker players. With the move to the Cake Poker Network, DoylesRoom is now going to be able to open there doors back up to the United States poker market which has many people becoming excited including Doyle Brunson himself.

Doyle Brunson and the Cake Poker Network have both already commented on the move and are both excited to say the least and are expecting great things in the future to happen. With USA players now accepted into DoylesRoom now is the perfect time to sign-up your account. Currently DoylesRoom is offering all new players a full 100% match bonus up to $550.

Apart from a great sign-up bonus which is always available to new players, DoylesRoom is also running a special promotion to celebrate the move to the Cake Poker Network. On Saturday January 31st 2009 DoylesRoom will be running a $5000 freeroll to kick off the launch of the new network. The freeroll tournament will start at 5PM so make sure you get your seat early. DoylesRoom will also be running a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool tournament on the Sunday with a discounted buy-in which will only cost players $150+$12.

With a great launch party this weekend DoylesRoom should be bubbling with poker action that you can be playing. There will be plenty of money being thrown around and you should definitely hit up the tables if you’re looking for some fish to fry.

Detailed overview of BetUS Poker

Software

As I mentioned earlier BetUS is on the Cake Poker Network so they use the Cake Poker software which is one of the best emerging poker software clients in the industry. The graphics and player characters are very realistic and it allows for a more enjoyable playing experience. I’ve played on BetUS several times already and the poker room runs smoothly and I didn’t have to deal with any connection problems. You can use some cool features such as taking notes and viewing stats as well on the software when you’re playing poker.

Games

BetUS Poker offers several different poker games that you can play in a wide range of stakes plus they also have a great tournament community. BetUS has daily sit and go tournaments and multi-table tournaments plus satellite events to some of the best live poker events in the world such as WSOP events. The stakes at the ring table games begin as low as $.01/$.02 and go up to $50/$100. The poker games offered at BetUS are Texas Holdem, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo.

Traffic isn’t amazing at BetUS although they do have enough players that games are running around the clock. You’ll see anywhere from 5K - 10K players during peak hours and this number has been growing every month. Being on the Cake Poker Network has helped traffic increase and for a new network I think they have pretty decent traffic. Most of the traffic plays in the tournaments and low limit stakes like $1/$2, but there are some higher stake games available during peak times in the poker room.

Bonus

BetUS Poker has a welcome bonus for all new players which is automatically added to your account once you reach enough playing points. To view the full requirements you should check out the BetUS website.

Anyone that has been following the online poker industry within the United States is aware of how much the federal government has been trying to crack down on poker within its own borders, but a decision by the judicial branch of that government could send their entire strategy crumbling to the ground like the house of cards that it is. According to a recent ruling given in a Pennsylvania court, Judge Thomas A. James has ruled that poker is a game of skill and for that reason cannot be treated like a gambling activity under the state’s law.

The main factor regarding the decision, according to the judge, was the wide range of poker literature available on the odds of the game. The specific game in question here was Texas Hold ‘Em and the wide range of literature available on that particular gaming form convinced the judge that the long range skill of professional players wins out over their luck in the long run. This was brought home especially by a study done on the game of poker that showed that the majority of wins for a good poker player over time come from minimizing losses on bad hands and maximizing them on good ones. Since no other form of gambling can state this, the judge felt he had no choice but to make that particular ruling regarding Texas Holdem Poker.

This case started when a Pennsylvanian resident named Walter Watkins was arrested for running a $1-$2 No Limit Texas Holdem Poker game in his garage with no gambling license, but the ruling by the court has effectively resulted in the dropping of the entire gamut of charges against him and his dealer Diane Dent. According to Poker Player’s Alliance, this represents a huge victory for poker in the United States.
